When I was out in the boat on the bay one day, I saw big pink birds flying over all together. The sky was dotted with hot pink, orange, and black and I knew I had to see and paint the flamingos of Cuba. Cuba has one of the largest populations of flamingos in the Northern Hemisphere, totalling somewhere around 70,000. They tend to gather around the salt flats in my area and are such a site to see! The coloring of the flamingo's feathers is very dependant on their diet (the shrimp and algae that they consume), so the ones that I photographed where this beautiful coral/red/pink coloring.
